Welcome to the United States Air Force Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS), Region 5 web site. We are striving each day to continue the mission and legacy of the USAF MARS program. Region 5 Air Force MARS comprises operations in the states of IL, IN, MN, MI, OH and WI. Each state, in turn, is run by a State MARS director (SMD) and their staff.
The MARS program consists of licensed amateur radio operators who are interested in military communications. They contribute to the MARS mission by providing auxiliary or emergency communications on a local, national, and international basis as an adjunct to normal communications.
MARS utilizes many facets of radio communications including traditional SSB voice and digital communications, some of which are not allowed to ordinary amateur radio operators on HF frequencies outside of the normal ham bands. If you like what you see and desire to be part of this exciting, patriotic effort, I urge you to review the affiliate membership qualifications and fill out our application.
